Playing With Fire
10 x10 inches

Encaustic using wax medium,
 pigment and amber shellac
As I work with the hot pigments and heat gun or torch I sometimes really don’t know how the colors will come together but trust that they will in an interesting way. This happened with Playing with Fire. I painted the wax with several different pigments and amber shellac, lit the surface with a match and watched it blow out. Then the magic happened and the colors began to move again to create something quite different.

I think this piece is one of my favorites.
